Heathen Bazaar ...the textile garment and fabric marketplace for independent artisans and producers in Australia and New Zealand

If you're looking to buy something unique as a garment, maybe a furniture or architectural textile, Heathen Bazaar is what you're after.
Our participants make everything from the functional to the funky and from the sublime to the frankly odd. We combine to pull together the threads of fabrics, haberdashery, found objects, silk, hand dyed knitting yarn, cashmere, alpaca, organic cotton and bamboo, Japanese cotton shirtings, silk chiffons and georgettes, woolen suitings and coatings, linens, satins, New Zealand merino knits, leather hides, eco and organic fabrics, vintage fabrics and odds-and-sods. Designers from beginners to well-known artisans produce hundreds of new products showcase a wide variety of traditional and contemporary textile art techniques. Hand made wearable art pieces, swatches, textile lengths, pattern blocks, toiles and top quality designer dress fabrics can be found on our regular textile walking tours and through our sponsors and advertisers. From time to time you’ll also find specialist books, periodicals and exhibition catalogues relating to art, craft, design and culture, including drawings, notebooks, photographs, scrapbooks, posters, teaching manuals, magazines, clothing and digital media.
The “Heathen Bazaar” is an opportunity for participants to sell their own hand made items at the regular textile markets we'll be holding around the country, with the permanent home being in the Brunswick St precinct of Fitzroy, at the Beautiful Silks warehouse, and associated markets throughout Australia and New Zealand. Textile groups interested in hosting a Heathen Bazaar- one-off or regular - are welcome to apply for permission to use the name. Some of our participants have been designing and selling for years out of local boutiques and travel to markets in other cities for greater exposure; others have just recently sewn first fashion seeds in various garages and grotty flats, and as new graduates or young designers are ready to break out, start their own label and become an inspiration to a new generation of creatives.
Upcoming Bazaar in Melbourne: SATURDAY 9 JUNE 2012 101 Victoria St, Fitzroy.
including Suzanne Savona, Tracey Coppin, Connie Curatio, Kalena Hynes, Looming (John Brooks), Penny Cawrse.
